Cotswold Walks at The Swan

If you’re looking for an active and adventurous holiday with stunning scenery, exploring The Cotswold Walks whilst staying at The Swan Hotel is the perfect choice for you. Situated in Wotton-under-Edge, a cosy and historic market town that sits just under the edge of the escarpment in the beautiful Cotswolds, the town has access to many public rights of way and popular trails, including the infamous Cotswold way. Steeped in history and overflowing with charm, the lively town of Wotton and its surrounding villages are perfect for exploring and relaxing in.

Famed for its thatched cottages, stately homes and wide, rolling hills, the Cotswolds is one of the most stunning and beautiful areas to walk in the south of England. Perhaps most famous is the Cotswold Way, a 102 mile National Trail that stretches from Chipping Camden to the vibrant city of Bath. The trail runs directly through the centre of Wotton-under-Edge, allowing walkers to explore the town’s eclectic selection of shops and cafes. The infamous Cotswold is not just a walking challenge, but a perfect and unique way of exploring a hidden side of the Cotswolds, boasting panoramic views, a huge variety of local flora and fauna, ancient settlements, ruins and reservoirs, deep woodlands and wonderful grand estates.

If you’re not up for walking the full Cotswold Way, a number of other shorter and more local walks are accessible from the town of Wotton-under-Edge. Maps are available for download from The Swan website that detail the circular walks around Wotton and surrounding areas. These walks vary in length, and whilst they may not follow the high escarpment of the Cotswold Way, they certainly do not lack in views, following ancient tracks and quiet lanes, revealing monuments, historic buildings, and offering a unique glimpse into past rural life. Leaflets and booklets are available at the hotel and tourist information which give further information about the trails and the landmarks along the way.

Whether you decide to venture onto the Cotswold Way or just decide to explore the immediate surroundings, the beauty of the Cotswolds is just waiting to be discovered. And what could be better after a long day of walking than to come back and relax in our comfortable and welcoming rooms and restaurant. The Swan Hotel is also proud to be dog friendly, meaning that your four-legged friends are able to enjoy the wonderful walking country of the Cotswolds too!
